It Didn't Start With Trucks
Juan José is an entrepreneur by nature. He finished his studies in communications and spent years working at radio stations in Los Angeles, creating advertising for radio and television.
But behind the microphone, there was another shift waiting: nights cleaning restaurants and washing trucks to make ends meet.
The beginnings were anything but easy — long hours, sleepless nights, exhaustion. But every night scrubbing floors taught him something no classroom ever could: nothing worth having comes without hard work.
José Luis, "El Flaco"
José Luis —"El Flaco"— came from Mexico with a gift: he's a born technician. He started at the bottom of the food truck industry, washing trucks in Paramount, California. But standing on the sidelines was never his style. Soon he was repairing kitchen equipment, learning every system of every truck he touched — until one day he built his first ice cream truck in the borrowed garage of his brother's house.
More than 20 years later, those same hands have built hundreds of food trucks, trailers and carts rolling across California today. El Flaco still leads production in the shop that bears his name — because at Flacos, experience isn't a slogan. It's the founder.
2013: Two Paths, One Road
In 2013, Juan José saw an opportunity: to help his father-in-law, José Luis, in his efforts to build a food truck manufacturing company from the ground up.
That's where the two paths joined. The young entrepreneur with big dreams and the seasoned builder with skilled hands — one family, one vision.
What started as help became a calling. And that calling became Flacos Custom Food Trucks.
